The Paklenica National Park spreads over the littoral slope of the South Velebit, immediately above the Marasovici settlement, up to the zone with the highest mountain peaks (Vaganski vrh, Babin vrh, Sveto brdo). The name Paklenica most likely originates from the black pine resin, i.e. “paklina”, which was used by the locals in folk medicine, for healing wounds, and later as a spill – for lightening and coating wooden ships.
