HISTORY OF GOLF IN SLOVENIA

Slovenia’s first golf course, was open in 1938 near the town of Bled and it was built for the king of Yugoslavia.

The course was not renovated until 1972, when the course and facilities were upgraded. The course is seen as the one which is located in the most beautiful scenery in Slovenia. Today there are many more golf courses throughout Slovenia. In 1989 the popular Lipica course was built and after it opened golf saw a huge rise in popularity and the number of people, who play gold increases year after year.

 

EXAMS AND PLAYING PERMITS

There are numerous driving ranges where beginners can learn to play with qualified instructors and get there permits to play on the courses. The course to obtain a permit will take about 20 hours to do and is followed by an exam.

There is a written exam and also practical one which have to be completed and after passing you are free to join any of the golf courses in Slovenia.

The golf course offers everything a golfer may expect:

  • A nicely arranged and well maintained course with 18 holes and an emphasis on large and well kempt greens and tees.

  • The Diners Club Ljubljana golf course consists of six par three holes, six par four holes and six par five holes. Every hole has four teeing areas: a white one, a yellow one, a red one and an orange (children’s) one. Two small lakes are located within the boundaries of the course, which is surrounded by forest edges. The playing fields, however, are broad and widely open, promising an enjoyable game for everyone, beginners included. One particular characteristic of the course as a whole are three large, dynamic and fast lawns.

  • Another particularity of the golf course is a possibility to play golf at night as three of its holes nearest to the clubhouse as well as the driving range and putting geen are lit by floodlights.

  • The course also offers a brilliantly equipped golf academy (individual lessons, group practice, youth courses, video analysis of the swing, golf club calibration), where every golfer may find something of interest.

The course is set apart by its unique location overlooked by the highest of the Slovenian Alps and the wonderful countryside embracing it. We are proud that the Royal Bled Golf Course is the only Slovenian golf course on the Golf World Magazine list of Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe in year 2014. We are ranked at 49th place.

The 18-hole championship golf course was redesigned in 1972 by the renowned golf architect Donald Harradine. He used the natural characteristics and advantages of the area to create a real architectural achievement. Players seeking to practise their game can choose between pitch & putt, a driving range, a putting green and a chipping green. The driving range is floodlit in the evenings, making it especially attractive for those who face busy schedules. Royal Bled Golf Course also provides Golf school, equipment rental and Pro shop with golf equipment.

In the past years, the Royal Bled Golf Course hosted many important professional and amateur events on the European level (such as LPGA Tour, the Challenge Tour, European Boys Team Championship, European Ladies Team Championship…).

The golf course lies in idyllic surroundings between vineyards in Škalce, next to the town Slovenske Konjice. It is entirely surrounded by vineyards. Playing fields are variegated with a brook, which flows in the middle of the golf course, water hazards, wood and shrubbery.

The golf course has 9 holes with a total lenght of 2500 m and it has a pair 35. The ground is pleasant for the game, but it requires precise hits. Power and length are not important by playing, but first of all the thoughtfulness and a high degree of concentration.

The golf course is open from March to November. In the range of our activities we have arranged also the training golf course, where we organize golf instructions, continuation courses for children and young people and invidual learning hours.
